Section 8..can A Person Get It When They Own A Home? Im Heading Towards Foreclosure Or A Short Sale…but I Am?

I am current on my mortgage..never had a late pmt. but my funds are running out..just got a new job but the money is not what i expected…I might short sell and become a renter..or rent my condo out…but the Govt gives out sect 8 money to renters…do they give it to home owners?

  1. No. A home is an asset…even if it’s being foreclosed on and even when you don’t live in it. If you have assets like that you won’t get Section 8 for yourself.
    But you could make your home a Section 8 home for someone else to rent from you. You’ll be subject to inspections and tons of extra paperwork and requirements, and the rent you get probably wont’ cover the payment, though.

  2. No, they do not give section 8 to home owners.
    Your best course of action would be to contact your lender and work out a loan modification.

  3. No…a home owner would not qualify. Besides…the waiting list for section 8 vouchers is over 3 years long in most states.
